Brian has experience to help grow and effectively manage clients’ intellectual property portfolios. With wide-ranging experience both as an engineering client and as an attorney, Brian has a unique perspective on intellectual property management, enabling him to be a knowledgeable collaborator to product development and marketing processes with respect to intellectual property. Brian represents and counsels clients of all sizes regarding their patent and trademark portfolios. This representation includes preparation, prosecution, and appeal of applications, as well as advising and rendering opinions regarding infringement, invalidity, freedom-to-market, and patentability.

In Brian’s patent practice, he prosecutes domestic and international utility and design patents in mechanical, biomedical, electrical, biotech/chemical, business method, and software fields. His related technology experience includes consumer and personal care products, surgical and general medical devices, medical packaging, refrigeration and cooling, outdoor power equipment, packaging and packaging systems, hydraulic, pneumatic, piezoelectric, and electromagnetic pumps, motors, manifolds, valving systems and braking systems, fluid containment and delivery, aerospace and projectile systems, imaging and radar, light distribution, and electric sensors, among others.

Prior to entering the practice of law, Brian was as a product development group leader and engineer for medical device engineering companies in Ohio. He worked on the design, manufacture, and validation of devices and packaging in areas of gastroenterology, oncology, oral care, personal care, medical aerosols, and pain management. Brian was substantially involved in maintaining compliance with government regulations and gained valuable experience in the protection of the related intellectual property and the marketing/sales of the related products.
